TSB Probes Small Plane Crash at Medicine Hat Regional Airport

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating after a small private aircraft crashed at Medicine Hat Regional Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews rushed to the airport around 2:30 p.m. following reports that a plane had gone down on the runway. Police confirmed that two people were on board, and remarkably, neither was injured.

In an update posted Thursday morning, the City of Medicine Hat clarified that the aircraft had “landed short of the runway” and came to rest in the grass on airport property. The plane was unable to move on its own and required assistance from airport operations staff.

The runway was closed for roughly two hours as crews worked to remove the aircraft and ensure the area was safe for continued operations.

The incident caused only one significant disruption to the airport schedule — a WestJet flight arriving from Calgary, which was delayed for approximately three and a half hours before arriving Wednesday evening.

The Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation to determine what caused the plane to come down short of the runway.
