Authorities confirm fatalities after aircraft goes down near Gloria Switch Road
LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (WAFB/KATC) – Three people are dead after a plane crashed Tuesday (Oct. 21) near the intersection of Gloria Switch Road and LA Highway 93, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and KATC-TV.
LPSO identified the three victims as:
- Bruce Verduyn, 58, of The Woodlands, Texas
- Lydia Laws, 46, of Spring, Texas
- Justin Ramsey, 42, of The Woodlands.
Sgt. Chris Cormier said the plane crashed into a field after circling in the air. He identified the plane as a Beechcraft Baron, a light twin-engine aircraft.

According to Flight Aware, an aircraft matching that configuration with tail number N16PV took off at 9:53 a.m. from Hooks Memorial Airport in the Houston area. Its radar-tracked flight path ended near the crash site at 11:01 a.m.
Deputies responded to the crash just after 11 after hearing a report of the aircraft losing altitude, circling, and crashing into an open field.

The cause of the crash has not yet been released. LPSO said they will not be releasing further details at this time.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
