Helicopter Crashes Near Springfield, Two Hospitalized

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A dramatic scene unfolded late Tuesday morning when a helicopter went down just south of the Springfield Downtown Airport.

Springfield Police reported that the crash happened around 11:25 a.m. on the north side of the Cooper Sports Complex, sending emergency crews rushing to the site.

Two occupants aboard the aircraft were rushed to the hospital with serious but stable injuries, authorities confirmed.

According to SGF Flying Service, the helicopter belonged to So Fly, a local flight training school based in Springfield. The company is not affiliated with the Downtown Airport, though the aircraft had taken off from its field shortly before the crash.

Investigators are now working to recover all the wreckage. Police noted that while much of the debris has been collected, some pieces remain unaccounted for. They’re urging anyone who discovers possible crash fragments in the area to contact the Springfield Police Department so they can safely retrieve them.
